These terms cover your use of the Subtitle Wand app, your account and the minutes you buy. Subtitle Wand is made by Ardent Research, Inc. ("we", "us"), [ADDRESS]. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these terms.
What Subtitle Wand does
Subtitle Wand is a Mac app. It reads the subtitles or speech in a video on your Mac, sends the subtitle text to our server for translation, and burns the translation into a new copy of the video on your Mac. The video itself is never uploaded.
Your account
- You sign in with your email address. Keep access to that email secure, because anyone who can read it can sign in as you.
- One account per person. Do not create extra accounts to get more free trial minutes. We may remove trial minutes from accounts we believe were made for that purpose.
- You must be old enough to enter a contract where you live, or have a parent or guardian's permission.
Minutes
- Translating a video uses minutes from your balance. The app shows the cost before you start. Usually one minute of video costs one minute. Videos with a lot of text can cost more, because the cost is the larger of the video's length and the amount of text divided by a per-language limit.
- New accounts get free trial minutes. Trial minutes have no cash value and cannot be refunded.
- You can buy prepaid packs of minutes. Bought minutes do not expire while Subtitle Wand is offered.
- Minutes are a prepaid right to use the service. They are not money, have no cash value, and cannot be transferred, sold or exchanged, except as our refund policy allows.
- If a translation fails or you cancel it, you are charged only for the part that was translated. The rest goes back to your balance.
- If we ever stop offering Subtitle Wand, we will tell you at least 60 days in advance and refund minutes you bought and have not used.
Payments
Purchases are processed by Paddle.com Market Limited ("Paddle"), which acts as our reseller and merchant of record. Paddle handles payment, sales tax and VAT, invoices and receipts. When you buy minutes, you also agree to Paddle's buyer terms. Prices are shown before you pay and may change for future purchases. A price change does not affect minutes you already have.
Your videos and your responsibility
- Use Subtitle Wand only with videos you have the right to use and modify. You are responsible for what you translate and for how you use the exported videos.
- The import from a link feature is for videos you are allowed to save. It does not save copy-protected (DRM) streams. Do not use it to break the terms of the site you import from.
- You keep all rights to your videos, your subtitle text and the translations. We claim no ownership of them.
- Do not use the service to translate content that is illegal, or to try to get around the minute count, overload the service or reach other users' data.
Translations
Translations are made by an AI model (Claude, from Anthropic). They can contain mistakes, including wrong names, missing nuance or wrong meaning. Check translations before you rely on them, especially for anything legal, medical, financial or safety-related.
The app
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use the app on Macs you own or control. Do not copy, resell or reverse engineer the app, except where the law allows it. The app can check for updates and install them when you agree.
Ending your account
You can stop using Subtitle Wand at any time, and ask us to delete your account by emailing support@subtitlewand.com. Unused minutes are lost when an account is deleted, except as the refund policy allows. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms. If we close your account without a good reason under these terms, we refund minutes you bought and have not used.
Warranty and liability
We work hard to keep Subtitle Wand reliable, but we provide it "as is", without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that cannot be limited by contract.
Changes
We may update these terms. If a change matters, we will tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect. If you keep using Subtitle Wand after that, the new terms apply.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of [STATE / COUNTRY]. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live.
